Our favorite tour of all! We are certainly a bit biased as it is our home region on the top of being the most impressive in the whole country.
Hunza is the paradise home of – only – religious minorities (Shias and Ismailis) that presents the highest literacy rate of Pakistan despite most of its population being rural. This is the fruits of Ismailis sheik community focusing on education and girl’s education in particular since the 60’s. This is something we are very proud of, but we’ll have time to talk about this during the trip 😊 This tour will take you to the Karakoram Highway which gives breathtaking views of 7,000m+ (23,000ft+) mountains. The view is breathtaking – even from your car seat. Depending on the season, rivers and lakes are turning pristine blue, when glaciers are located near the road. The tour will take you to 800-year-old forts from which Mars – local kings – were ruling until 1974. If you lucky, in autumn, the valleys are turning fire orange. Our tour will take you to 800-year-old forts from which Mars – local kings – were ruling until 1974.
We will also take you to the remotest villages after crossing thousand suspensions bridges or driving on the 58 foot long – and impressive – Jeep roads. Our guides have been exploring these regions on foot, bikes, motorcycles, 4×4, buses and Himalayas for 16 years to get an alternative to the five-day trek to reach particular Highway.
Hunza is our home. Our families will welcome you, feed you, you will meet our stories and heritage. Have in our abodes. We take the opportunity to share from our stories and most importantly, share a mint tea and a meal. We escape from our great-uncle preferred welcome meals: apricot rich ice with French fries or roti (bread with apricot marmalade). It is not as horrible as it sounds, you’ll see 😉
Right next to Hunza, Ladakh, Skardu is home to four 8,000 m peaks (K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II) and natural jewels. The city itself is located along the mystical Indus river surrounded by a vast desert which is created by the strong winds. In order, a few sand dunes stand quite high in the middle of the mountains at 2,200 m altitude, right? There, you can also visit Shangri-La Siri built in the 18th century and painted Shigar the jewels of this ancient Silk Road. Old wooden mosque stand here, which make them stand out in the pristine water from a sacred beach? For gondolas, you can also taste the spring forest water directly from the lake. In autumn, the valleys transforms to the royal gardens of Shigar (17th century) and Khaplu (19th century) forts which were recently renovated and turned into luxury hotels.
The picturesque Hushe valley is the start of several treks, including the one day trek to Masherbrum base camp which is also a cat pasture in summer. Trek to Concordia K2 basecamp starts there too. George Mallory is a prominent high-altitude climber who was, at the beginning of his career, always rejected by the expedition teams because of his small size. He climbed Gasherbrum II without oxygen.
Skardu is also the last city before Deosai natural park, which is the world’s second highest plateau with an average elevation of 4,114 m. The park was created in the 90s to protect the Himalayan Brown Bears and is now home to snow leopards and wolves. If those are difficult to spot, you will for sure meet Himalayan marmots on the way.
